Leaving no one behind
European Solidarity Corps project
People often have the habit of blaming Roma youth for not wanting to learn and not wanting to develop. However, we know from experience that this is not exactly the case, which is why we want to show solidarity with the Roma youth who want to grow and learn. Still, due to their community and parents' limitations, they give up these goals because they feel powerless to fight against the community. Our youth group knows very well how important it is to have someone to show you that there is a world outside the Roma community, outside the restrictions and the known. A world where there are no limits for the talented, the educated, and the willing. For this reason, we implemented this project to show Roma youth another world - a different world- that they can be a part of as long as they choose education and development.
Raising awareness of essential values and programs such as those of the European Union and the European Solidarity Corps and achieving broader awareness of one of the most vulnerable groups in Sliven were some of the most important goals achieved. Apart from showing solidarity towards Roma youth, the project aimed to spread the ideas of volunteering and solidarity. With this project, we set out to show the importance of raising awareness about the benefits of education, volunteering, and personal development.
With our project, we would like to set a good example of young people acting together for a brighter future for more young people from Roma backgrounds. We believe that with the example we will set, we will encourage other young people to take an interest in the problems of the Roma community and how they can be part of the change. Since young people influence other young people the most, we believe that we will be able to reach our target group successfully.
Empowering Youth Voices in Sliven
In a dynamic discussion held in the town of Sliven, young people came together with a key decision-maker to explore and advocate for greater youth participation in local governance. The conversation revolved around innovative approaches to youth engagement, the challenges faced by young citizens, and the importance of their active involvement in shaping policies that affect their future.
This initiative is a testament to the transformative potential of youth-led advocacy, proving that when young voices are heard, they can inspire impactful decisions and a brighter future for everyone.
Brainstorming for Inclusion
Young people with fewer opportunities came together to exchange ideas on fostering inclusivity and ensuring that everyone feels involved. Through an engaging brainstorming session, they explored actionable steps and innovative approaches for creating activities that embrace diversity and empower all members of their community.
This collaborative effort highlights the power of dialogue and creativity in addressing challenges and building a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.
Spreading Kindness in Nadezhda
In the Romani neighborhood of Nadezhda, Sliven, young people united for a heartwarming charity initiative. With compassion and determination, they worked to support local families, fostering a sense of hope and solidarity within the community.
This act of generosity not only brought immediate relief but also highlighted the power of youth-driven efforts to make a lasting impact in underserved areas.
"Bringing the Project to Schools"
Project participants visited schools to share insights and experiences from their initiative. They engaged in meaningful discussions with students and educators, highlighting youth-led projects' goals, outcomes, and importance in addressing real-local challenges.
These sessions informed and inspired young minds, encouraging them to take an active role in their communities and explore how collective action can drive positive change.
Exploring Nature and Traditional Skills with Romani people
Project participants and the people of Nadezhda come together in the heart of nature to explore and try out traditional activities, such as spear-throwing. This hands-on experience allowed them to connect with nature and their heritage in a fun and educational way, strengthening bonds within the community and celebrating cultural traditions.
Engaging Youth in Culture and Community
The active young participants of the project organized cultural outings for the Romani neighborhood of Nadezhda, including visits to museums, cinema, and theatre. These activities provided valuable cultural experiences while also fostering a sense of community.
In addition, they made a significant contribution to the community through their efforts to improve and support the local environment.
